What Comes To Be The Reason Of Hair Dye Linked To Blood Cancer – Part 1

Raising lymphoma risk is the long-term use of dark, permanent dye. We give you a look at the causes of these problems. Use hair dyes with caution.

What Comes To Be The Reason Of Hair Dye Linked To Blood Cancer – Part 1

The Introduction

Hair dyes are commonly used by all. What they do not know is that they may cause cancer. It is attributed to the various harsh chemicals being used in the products that cause the dangers of lymphoma. So, it is always good to exercise caution as it comes to the use of dyes. Here we list out certain causes that help those who use dyes to prevent the onset of any diseases be it allergy or cancer.

What Do Dyes Do To The Body?

Doubling a person’s risk of certain blood cancers as new research shows is long-term use of permanent hair dye in dark colours.

Along with a group of diseases known as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, earlier studies have linked permanent hair dyes to bladder cancer as well. All over the world, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma rates are up. Yale researcher Tongzhang Zheng, ScD, says nobody knows why.

Hair dyes might play a role, as Zheng suspects. It comes with the increasing use of hair dye. Exposing users to dangerous chemicals are the products especially the permanent types in dark colours. Analysing hair dye use in 601 women with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and 717 similar women without cancer was a research team led by Zheng.

What are the results: who reported the use of hair colouring products before 1980 as an increased risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma was observed for women. Doubling their risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma were women who used dark-coloured permanent hair colouring products for more than 25 years. For women who used more than 200 applications of these products, the risk was nearly the same. In women who used semi-permanent dyes or temporary rinses, no increased risk was seen.

So should women stop using permanent hair dyes?

Zheng tells that for all kinds of reasons, hair colouring is a personal decision. He would do it if he is a person and if the semi-permanent or temporary dyes could serve his issue. Linked to cancer, these contain much less of the ingredients.

Appearing in the Jan. 15 issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology is Zheng’s report.

Industry Says Hair Dye Safe

Pointing to a 2000 review of the scientific literature on hair dyes and cancer by Johns Hopkins researchers was the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association. Linking hair dyes to cancer to be inconclusive, the study found the evidence. Using improved methods, it called for further research.

Pointing to two large epidemiologic studies that found no link between hair dyes and cancer was the CTFA statement.

The CTFA then notes that including several well-designed studies conducted by prestigious institutions such as the American Cancer Society and Harvard University, the safety of hair dyes is supported by the overwhelming wealth of scientific research. Showing no elevated health risk for women using hair dyes, these large epidemiology studies included more than 570,000 and 120,000 women respectively.

Reaffirming its confidence in the safety of hair dyes is the hair colour industry.

Noting that two other large epidemiological studies reached different conclusions was Zheng and colleagues. Having underestimated exposure to hair dye, they suggest that all of these studies were limited by methodological problems.

In providing information helpful to researchers, Zheng says the cosmetic industry has been very helpful.

Are Today's Products Safer?

In women who began colouring their hair after 1980, Zheng’s team found no increased non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma risk. Here it comes to be raising a serious question. To remove known cancer-causing agents, in 1979, the hair care industry drastically changed the formulation of most hair dyes.

Here the relevant question is are the hair dyes made after 1980 safe? As also is it that not enough people have thereby used the new products that are used long enough to get cancer? From his study, Zheng says it's impossible to tell.

The Conclusion Of The Discussion On Hair Dyes

In this case, the products after 1980 are shown to be safe. Whereas research is on to find the best effects of the products. So that we can help you from contracting any kind of problems with the use of any products, the list is exhaustive. We have more to discuss in the next part of the post. So always keep yourself alert when using the hair dyes that come with permanent colour. No matter what happens, people still use hair dyes. So, you must keep in mind to check whether you are allergic or in case you have sensitive skin.
