Hair Care Tips From Experts

Andrew McDougall, Associate Director of Beauty & Personal Care at Mintel, was recently rounded up, as one of the biggest drivers in the current scene defining the hair care market. Leading a session at the in-cosmetics Global industry event, McDougall offered further insights into this key category with great potential in the coming period. As of defining hair care in 2019, McDougall attributed sustainability, biodegradability, scalp care and probiotics as the trends. The following is a detailed write up on these factors affecting hair growth in humans. This is more than a discussion. It is a scientific write-up on the key ingredients for healthy hair.

Sustainability

There are so many reasons to affect this particular factor. As sustainability is regarded to be the first and foremost reason behind healthy hair, it has to be taken care of with serious understanding. Know the sustainability to sustain your hair. For many, the sources of concern are water shortage and sustainability. To meet the industry’s sustainability goals, reduce consumption, waste, and packaging.

It is a fact known to be around the globe that consumers require brands to be mindful about the environment becoming sensitive to company ethics as in the US, 59% of iGens and Millennials resist buying products from a brand or retailer when they believe they are unethical.

Saving water also has a practical appeal, while consumers are increasingly willing to invest in water-saving innovations along with hair care categories. Inspired by dissolvable formats such as water-soluble sachets being used in the laundry detergent category, these are examples seen in hair care. In the beauty and personal sector, single-dose formats are being used more now that require less water during use minimizing the need for packaging.

Biodegradability

Among these factors, biodegradability is of premier importance as it helps save the environment. Using those products that do not affect the environment it is of importance as users are making sure they have eco-friendly products just to contribute a bit to the ongoing save the earth campaigns. The promise to the future generation that they will be gifted a healthy environment counts more than anything else.

In haircare, biodegradability is also becoming a must-have with products that are directly washed into wasted waters. These oils very commonly used in the hair are not biodegradable, as the silicone-free claim is seen to become popular in recent years. The demands are a high priority in haircare as it is the main challenge to switch to more sustainable formulas keeping a good sensory experience.

Probably because of the sensorial properties, it means that the majority of hair care products contain silicone s. Producing the sensorial benefits of silicones, but that are biodegradable, we are watching ingredient suppliers develop silicone-free textures.

Scalp Care

Being of great importance is the scalp care wherever and whenever. Good care helps build healthy hair irrespective of age and gender. It is a tedious process to keep the scalp healthy. Factors such as pollution and harsh chemicals are seriously affecting the scalp. This is one factor deciding the hair growth.

Scalp care is being influenced by skincare claims as brands continue to speak of gentle cleansing benefits and look to the language that is being used around micellar concepts and probiotics to use familiar and trusted communications. With a wider variety of claims in hair care in the future, hair care is a market asking for product customization and segmentation.

Probiotics

What are Probiotics? It is important to learn the factor leading to the usage of Probiotics. With them, there comes a promise for healthy hair for all. Entering the scalp/hair care space is Probiotics. As the hero ingredient in the skin at the moment is lactobacillus used to support skin barrier function and dryness claims for the skin along with stimulating the growth of skin/scalp friendly bacteria helping balance the microbiome.
Suggesting a new way to treat dandruff, research suggests increasing the propionibacterium and decreasing the Staphylococcus on the scalp. With the help of Probiotics hair products, you can adjust the balance of bacteria on the scalp focusing that it has been on the anti-dandruff segment. It is said that the consumers are certainly benefitting from an oral supplement as well as a topical application directly to the scalp. Creating new storylines for scalp care is a positive health message with Probiotics expanding the overall hair care routine.
